The laboratory began MetaEX — Meta Cognitive AI Laboratory for Autonomous Design of Underground EXcavation (2026–2029), funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea. The project develops an autonomous analysis and design platform for deep underground excavation, integrating open-source finite element analysis with physics-informed artificial intelligence and meta-cognitive decision-making toward a Level 4 digital twin. The conference marked the 100th anniversary of modern soil mechanics under the slogan “Where it all began.”
